A Door Worth Showing Off
This summer, we were proud to see a custom Whitebird Woodcraft door featured in the Central Oregon Builders Association Tour of Homes.
For us, having one of our doors included in a showcase of beautiful Central Oregon homes was an exciting opportunity to share what we love about custom woodworking—and the possibilities that come with thoughtful door design.
The featured entry makes a statement from the moment you arrive.
Crafted from plain-sawn sapele, this modern door measures an impressive 4 feet by 9 feet and features three large glass panels framed by coordinating sidelights.
The result is a bold, contemporary entry that brings together natural wood, clean lines, and abundant natural light.
The Beauty of Sapele
One of the things that makes this door particularly special is the material.
Sapele is a member of the mahogany family and is prized for its beauty, durability, and dimensional stability—qualities that make it an excellent choice for a custom exterior door.
Its natural color can range from a warm, golden reddish-brown to deeper chocolate tones, creating a rich appearance that becomes even more beautiful as the wood’s natural character comes through.
For this project, the warm tones of the sapele complement the home’s stone exterior beautifully while giving the entry a distinctly modern feel.
Designed to Make an Entrance
At Whitebird Woodcraft, we believe a front door should do more than simply provide a way in and out of your home.
It should work with the architecture around it.
This particular design shows how scale, proportion, glass, and natural materials can come together to create an entrance that feels both dramatic and inviting.
At 4 by 9 feet, the door’s substantial size gives the entry a strong architectural presence, while the glass panels allow light and views to flow through the space.
The coordinating sidelights complete the design and create a balanced, cohesive look.

The Tour of Homes also gave us an opportunity to debut something new of our own: the Whitebird Woodcraft logo.
As Whitebird enters its next chapter, we’re excited to introduce a refreshed identity that reflects who we are and what we value—quality craftsmanship, distinctive design, and doors made with intention.
